Terms of Service

Last updated 26 August 2026. Plain language, and short on purpose.

1. What you're agreeing to

These terms are between you and DistillCast. By creating an account or paying for a subscription, you accept them. If you don't, don't use the service.

2. What the service does

You add podcast or YouTube sources to your account. For new episodes, DistillCast downloads the audio, transcribes it, generates a written summary, and produces a short spoken-audio version of that summary. Those digests are delivered to you by email and on a private podcast feed that only you can reach.

Summaries are produced by automated systems and can be wrong. They are a convenience, not a substitute for the original episode, and you shouldn't rely on them where accuracy matters.

3. Your account

Sign-in is by emailed magic link, so control of your email inbox is control of your account. Keep it secure. You're responsible for activity under your account. One account is for one person — your private feed URL is personal to you and shouldn't be shared or republished.

4. Subscriptions, trials and renewal

  • Paid plans are billed in advance through Stripe. Current prices are on the pricing page.
  • A free trial collects your card at signup and charges nothing until the trial ends.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each term until cancelled. For annual plans we send advance notice before each renewal, stating what will be charged and when.
  • Cancel any time from your billing page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for — you keep access until then.
  • If a plan's price changes, the change applies from your next renewal, never mid-term, and we tell you before it takes effect.

5. Refunds

If a charge surprised you — you were charged after intending to cancel, or the service didn't work for you — email support@distillcast.com and we'll sort it out. We would rather refund you than argue with you. This is in addition to any refund or cancellation right you have under the law where you live, which these terms don't take away.

6. Acceptable use

Don't:

  • republish, sell or publicly distribute digests we generate for you
  • share your private feed URL so others can consume digests without their own account
  • use the service to process content you have no right to access
  • attempt to break, overload or circumvent the service's limits or security
  • resell or white-label the service without written permission

Usage is subject to a fair-use envelope so that one account can't consume capacity meant for everyone. If you approach it we contact you first — we don't bill silent overages, and we don't cut you off without a conversation.

7. Content and copyright

Source podcasts belong to their creators. DistillCast doesn't claim ownership of them and doesn't redistribute source audio: what you receive is a summary and a newly generated spoken rendition of that summary, private to your account. You keep whatever rights you have in the material you add. Rightsholders can read our copyright and takedown policy.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the service running and digests flowing, but we don't promise uninterrupted availability. Sources change, feeds break, upstream providers have outages. We'll tell you when something is wrong rather than let a feed fail quietly.

9. Ending the agreement

You can stop using DistillCast at any time and ask us to close your account and delete your data — see the privacy policy. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we're required to. Where we close an account for our own reasons rather than a breach, we refund the unused part of anything you've paid.

10. Liability

The service is provided as-is. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms materially we'll email account holders before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.
